Totally Devoted to Nokia - still king – despite stiff competition

From a recent press release ...

Nokia upped its share to 35 per cent in Q4 2005 from 33 per cent in Q4 2004. Yet on the retail shop floor website such as http://www.mobile-phone-upgrade.com/ are seeing other mobile phone manufacturers increasing their sales.

Many Top 10 Best Sellers list now have Samsung mobile phones or Motorola mobiles at second place. However, Nokia still usually has a 3 or 4 phone models in the Top 10 range.

New product releases have shown some innovation, but Nokia without doubt controls the most loyalty of all manufacturers. Most research shows Samsung and Motorola users to be relatively fickle, switching with each handset change from one manufacturer to another.

Nokia users, however, tend to be ‘staunch loyalists’, staying with Nokia from one mobile phone upgrade to the next. The reasons for this, from interim market research questionnaires is simple …

Nokia appeals to a broad range of ages.

Young people have ‘cool’ Nokias. Older people have simpler, more purely functional, easy-to-use Nokias.

This appears to be a very stereotypical analysis, but the evidence bears this out. Across the board, the 35+ age range uses Nokia because the Nokia menu system is straight forward and is more or less the same from one Nokia phone to another Nokia phone.
